Formal Arabic Islamic education in The Gambia began fifty years ago at the hands of a distinguished group of Islamic scholars who contributed to the spread of Islam by establishing Islamic schools across various parts of the country. These schools offered a complete educational system comprising the primary, intermediate, and secondary levels.
As time passed and the number of graduates steadily increased, it became necessary to develop these schools and establish higher educational institutions that would enable graduates to pursue tertiary education within the country, just as they could in neighboring countries such as Senegal, Mali, and Nigeria....
It was from this vision that a distinguished group of academics established Al Ihsan University to bridge this gap, create a conducive academic environment for students pursuing Arabic and Islamic education in The Gambia, and enable them to continue their higher education. The University also seeks to contribute to the nation's development by graduating highly qualified professionals dedicated to advancing knowledge and serving society.
