The date of establishment:

The university was established in 2011, corresponding to 1432 AH.

Obtain a licence from the government:

The university received a full operational licence from the Ministry of Higher Education in 2014, through which it was confirmed that the university meets the conditions and standards required to offer its educational programmes and award degrees. This licence was issued with the approval of the office of the former Head of State, Mr. Yahya Jammeh.

In 2015, the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation (NAQA) was established by parliamentary legislation to act as a liaison between the Ministry of Higher Education and academic institutions that offer post-secondary education and training programmes, including universities, colleges, and higher institutes.
This body is a branch of the Ministry of Higher Education, which is responsible for issuing and renewing licences. The university was able to obtain a new licence after the expiry of the first one.

To be a leading Islamic institution in West Africa in the field of higher education and scientific research.

Creating a distinguished Islamic educational beacon in West Africa, concerned with higher education and scientific research in Sharia, linguistic, technical and other fields of knowledge, and contributing to the service of society by directing advocacy, cultural, scientific and social activities in line with Islamic values.

Objectives:

  •  Promoting cultural, scientific and social activity, directing it in line with Islamic values, and enriching the lives of Muslims with the components of Islamic civilisation.
  • Working to consolidate the Islamic identity in the West African region by studying the Islamic heritage, enriching the lives of Muslims with the components of Islamic civilisation and employing its characteristics to serve society.
  •  Enabling the student to assimilate the Shari'ah and linguistic sciences, natural sciences and technology, and use the knowledge to serve the community.
  •  To contribute to the revival and dissemination of the Islamic heritage derived from the Book and Sunnah with the understanding of the righteous predecessors in the West African region, encourage scientific research, and help achieve rapprochement and understanding among the peoples of the region in accordance with the principles of Islam.
  •  Providing the appropriate framework and the necessary means for higher education and postgraduate studies in various fields of science.
  •  Focusing on living international languages such as Arabic, English and French, with great attention to translation to serve the Gambian community in particular and the African community in general.
  •  Working to promote and direct cultural, scientific and social activity in line with national and regional interests and religious values.
